You can’t spell “school” without “cool”

All about Mead Elementary
What do you get when you combine a top-notch education with award-winning design? Mead Elementary, where Barefoot Lakes students in grades PreK-5 get to go to school. (Lucky kids.) Built in 2020, the 70,000-square-foot school sits on the very site of the original building, which was constructed way back in the early 1900s.

Designed to celebrate the history of the Mead area and its agrarian roots, Anderson Mason Dale Architects incorporated touches like a gym that takes its cues from a barn and a “hayloft” in the library where students can settle in with a book. There’s also an outdoor classroom amphitheater built into a hillside and a ‘movement plaza’ that supports the “all-school movement program,” a learning methodology that fosters a lifelong relationship with fitness (more on that later). The whole place is full of color, daylight, very happy students—and a great education.

Educational opportunities
With an 8/10 rating on greatschools.org, Mead Elementary focuses on high achievement, technology, developing character, and the importance of taking twice-daily movement breaks to activate both sides of the brain and help children re-energize and ready to learn for a longer period of time. And the proof is in the numbers: with test scores above average and a low student:teacher ratio. The school also consistently wins St. Vrain School District’s reading challenges that demonstrate students’ dedication to reading. (In other words, the school looks good … and has brains, too.)

What comes next
After Mead Elementary, students will go on to attend award-winning and academically rigorous Mead Middle School. Then it’s off to Mead High School, with its college prep curriculum, AP and honors courses, and even concurrent college enrollment. All great schools, for all levels of learning.
